Dressing your body type {Women}

TGIF!

Although it has been a great week, I can’t be more excited for it to be Friday! The hubs and I are going on a date. Oh, wait…yes that was right. A date! :) Since our sweet girl has come into our lives it’s a rare day when we can just pick up and go out alone. Soooo…tonight it is!

Okay, on to other topics {no more lovey dovey-ness}…

I recently have been researching {and researching and researching} on “how to dress your body type”. I’m sure this knowledge comes quite natural for many of you but…for me…not so much {especially post baby body -sigh-}. I’ve gathered up some basic tips for those of you who are in the same boat as me {clueless}. So are you ready to look even more fab? Here it is ladies {“Dressing your body type” for guys will be coming soon so don’t check out yet men ;) }…

WOMEN:

Apple shaped bodies tune in! The best look for your upper body is…

  • Low-ish necklines like V’s, scooped necks, cowl necks, open shirt collars and boat necks. The lower neckline helps to accentuate the long lean line.
  • Tunics are also a wonderful piece for your shape {popular & adorable}.
  • The length of your tops should either catch you just below your hipbone or a few inches above crotch point when you wear jeans.

For the bottom half of you…

  • Flaunt those legs girls with a high wasted pencil skirt and some heels.
  • If you would rather wear a pair of jeans look for part jeans, part leggings {they showcase slender thighs while minimizing the midsection} with stretch in them.
  • Faux front pockets reduce bulk making the jeggings to lie flat against your body.

All the Pear shaped babes raise your hands {both of my hands are raised!}. This is definitely my body type so I’m taking in all the info I can. The best look for your upper body is…

  • Wear aggressive and bold patterns.
  • Cardigans, little cropped jackets & tailored jackets are a great way to add volume to your upper half and distract from your bum.
  • Steer away from tight fitted tops.
  • Striped tops {nautical tops are really in right now} are where it’s at! Everyone will be looking at where you are the thinnest.
  • Throw on a scarf {scarves are my go-to}! A thick scarf on a solid or darker outfit create for a perfect silhouette.
  • Length of your tops and/or jackets should end at your hipbone. Anything longer will offset your body type.

For the bottom half of you…

  • Dark bottoms {skirt or pants} are your best friend! This balances your booty with your top.
  • Trouser, wide leg pants and boot cut pants are literally made for this body shape. Take advantage of it! :)
  • Pin striped pants. When wearing pin striped bottoms be sure to do a skinny pin stripe otherwise it defeats the purpose.
  • Steer clear of skinny pants and capris.
  • As previously mentioned for the apple shape, find a pair of jeans with faux pockets. The more bulk you get the more pounds it adds to the lower half.

Ruler shaped bodies listen up! The best look for your upper body is…

  • Off the shoulder, boat-neck tops, wide V or U necks.
  • Break out the belts {Luckily, belts never seem to go out of style so go ahead and take advantage of it}. :)
  • Ruched tops are fabulous and add volume to your bust.
  • Tops that have fluttery sleeves work wonders for this body type {love love love fluttery sleeves!}.
  • Toss on a cropped jacket with a larger shirt to create dimension.

For your lower body…

  • Pants with full or moderately flared legs.
  • Go for details such as whiskering, embellished pockets & flap pockets.
  • Full, tiered and bubble skirts {bubble skirts=fun}.
  • Your body type can wear mid to lower rise pants to create more volume and curves.

All the Hourglass Shaped ladies check this out…

  • Rock a fitted top!
  • An A-line wrap dress will bring attention to your narrow middle, while skimming your hips and bust without accentuating them.
  • Belt a top to show off that small waistline.
  • Stick with V-necks, scoop necks, boat necks, open shirt collars, V-necked halters, and cowls.
  • Keep the top relatively simple, smooth and low scooped.
  • The length of your tops should either catch you just below your hipbone (a few inches above crotch point), or past the thigh area.

For your lower body…

  • You can sport the leggings look with a fun tunic {love this look}.
  • Mid-rise, boot-cut jeans are the most flattering though for your body top.
  • You can pull off the majority of skirts as long as they are structured and come to around the knee line {easy enough}.
  • You were made for A-line dresses so show off your curves!

I hope all of you have more confidence in your body type and how to dress it. Have fun doing it in the process! I can’t wait to raid my wardrobe and see what I can get together for my weekend outings.

Enjoy the weekend! :) :)
