Okay men, this one is for you!
I know many of you from day to day probably don’t think about what looks good on your body type {or even really care for that matter
} but many men feel lost when trying to buy a suit that fits correctly. Here’s a little info I picked up on how to “Suit Your Shape” via GQ magazine. Check it out…
For the short man:
DO WEAR:
- A pant leg with very little break
- Show some cuff to lengthen the look of your arms.
- A peak lapel helps elongate your physique.
- A lower button stance creates long lines, and that essentially stretches you out.
- Wear narrower shoes {you don’t want to look like you’ve got weights around your ankles}.
DON’T WEAR:
- Don’t wear a longer suit jacket.
- Don’t wear fat ties and wide lapels; keep it slim.
- Also, wearing a belt can make you look shorter.
For the tall man:
DO WEAR:
- Lighter colors add width to your frame.
- A 2 button suit works great for a tall man.
- Keep the cuff to a minimum {don’t show it off}
- Ask for a break in your trousers, so your legs don’t look too long.
- Wear rounded shoes.
- Accessories that cut across your body {belts, quarter-folded pocket squares, and horizontally striped ties}.
DON’T WEAR:
- Don’t buy suits with oversize, padded shoulders. {They swallow you up making you look frailer}
- Don’t wear extra-slim ties. {You need ties with width}
For the large man:
DO WEAR:
- Wear a pocket square {it brings the focus to your chest not the gut}.
- Keep your jacket buttoned.
- Stick with simple dress shirts {avoid plaids and checks}.
- Wear flat-front pants.
DON’T WEAR:
- Avoid super-skinny ties and lapels.
- Don’t wear a roomy suit. {It doesn’t make you look slimmer just sloppier}.
- Don’t go untucked.
For the athletic man:
DO WEAR:
- Two button suits sync up with the V shape of your torso.
- Low collar shirts work well with a thicker neck.
- Your jacket will most likely need to be taken in on the sides.
- Wear narrow-cut trousers.
- Look for shirts that say “slim” or “athletic”.
DON’T WEAR:
- Don’t wear peak lapels. {Your chest and shoulders are broad enough—no need to accentuate them}.
- Steer clear or clunky, thick shoes.
- Don’t wear a pocket square. {No need to bring more attention to your already proud chest
}.
{Now all of you are ready to go pick up the ladies!!}
