DIY Scarf Dress

It’s SATURDAY {lazy day}!

Hopefully all of you have the chance to relax and sleep in today!

So onto the reason you clicked this page…..the DIY scarf dress!

ITEMS NEEDED:

1) fitted t-shirt

2) large scarf

3) elastic {tip: you can buy a yard of elastic in the craft aisle at Walmart for 97 cents}

HOW TO:

1) Start by marking with a pin on your t-shirt where you would like the top of the bottom-half of your dress to hit.

2) Measure your waist around and add one inch.

3) Cut the elastic to the length of your waist line {with the inch added}.

4) Lay your scarf completely open and flat. Fold over the very top of your scarf {making a loop hole for your elastic to fit into} and pin all the way across the scarf.Image

4) Once pinned evenly, sew the very edge of the fabric to make the loop for the elastic to fit through.

5) After the very edge of the scarf has been sewn, put elastic in the loop. Leave the edges of the elastic on both ends out. Pin the ends together {overlapping them –>this is what the extra inch was for}.

6) Take the pinned overlapping elastic and sew a vertical line down the middle. {Be sure not to catch any fabric in the sewing process.}

7) Overlap the back of your dress {where it is open} folding one side into the other. Pin together to make an overlapping seam.

8) Sew a straight line down the overlapping back.

9) Pin your t-shirt {where you previously marked it} inside the bottom-half of your dress and sew right under your elastic all the way around the dress.

10) aaaaaand…you’re done!

What a fun Spring/Summer dress right?! If you didn’t want to attach the shirt to the bottom you could just make the skirt part of the dress and pair it with a cute top! I can’t wait for you to play around with it and see what you like best :) Excited to hear what you think!
