Hey DIY-ers!
It’s starting to get crazy around here! We’re heading for Tennessee {yeeee-haw} tomorrow to meet up with my side of the family for a little trip. I’ve always been pretty ridiculous when it comes to packing {must. pack. EVERYTHING.} but now I have to pack for a 9 month old who requires LOTS of entertainment and LOTS of extra outfits {always lovely to have your child have a blow-out on a trip. *rolls eyes*}. I sound gripey but I’m really excited!…just not a fan of packing and/or unpacking.
I was on a hunt for a fan-freakin’-tastic mask that I could make at home for a very lite price andddd I found one! I didn’t even have to purchase ANY items for this DIY {I can hear the hubs applauding proudly for a frugal wifey}! You ready folks?!
ITEMS NEEDED:
Check, check and check! All in the pantry.
I’m sure you are wondering why these products are helpful for your skin. No worries…I researched…and the result? “Nutmeg and honey act as natural anti-inflammatories {reduces swelling and redness in skin}. They’re also great for soothing acne scars and preventing infection.In addition, the nutmeg and cinnamon also work to exfoliate your skin when you wash this mask off.” Thank you collegefashion.net for this info which is actually where I found this DIY Mask.
Do you have all your products out now?? Okay, lets go…
{{This recipe makes a single serving. Below is a recipe for a larger amount}} To create the mask, mix 2 tablespoons of honey with a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of nutmeg.
The consistency should be like a thick paste. {{Almost looks good enough to eat
}}
Now it’s time to apply the mask to your face! Come on people…slather it on! {It’s going to feel gritty but that’s part of the fun!}
{{MUG SHOT
}}
Let it set on your skin for 30 mins….
Wash it off with warm water, scrubbing softly in circular motion for exfoliation.
Now feel how soft and young your skin feels…“like a babies bottom.” haha.
Once rinsed, I immediately put on moisturizer {if you have dry skin as well I would recommend doing this}.
{{I made the larger recipe in a baby food jar. You mix 6 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of nutmeg.}}
{Jazzed up the jar…}
What do you think??
Wish me luck everyone on our car ride to Tennessee!!

It sounds like a great recipe. Thanks! I’ll have to try it out while I’m relaxing in the tub tonight.
Quick question though – Does the larger recipe need to be refrigerated between uses?
I didn’t refridgerate my larger recipe. Just be sure you ALWAYS leave a lid on after use or it dries out! Good luck
OOH SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD RECIPE. MUST TRY
This sounds great – I think it would make a great homemade holiday gift for my sisters, daughters, etc. Thanks so much for the idea and the recipe! How far ahead of time would I be able to make this up? Do you have a recommendation on what size canning jar I should use to put it in? Since I’ve never made or used it, I’m not sure how far any amount of it would go. For jars, I have jelly jars, pints and quarts, although I’m pretty sure the quarts would probably be way too big!
While I’m here, I have a question for you, if you don’t mind. I have terribly dry skin on my hands. For years I’ve had to use lotion on them at least 5-7 times a day and at night (especially in wintertime) I’ve had to use the expensive Neutrogena lotion. If I don’t use those combinations, my hands crack and bleed. Now that I’m changing to all natural items, making my own laundry soaps, cleaners, etc. I’d like to be able to stop buying the lotions and use something I can make myself. Do you have any suggestions for me that would help my poor dry skin? I gave up on the store-bought lotions last week and have only been using vaseline for days and it’s not doing much. thanks in advance for reading this and if you have any suggestions, I’d be ever so thankful!
~Marie
P.S. Sorry for all the questions in this reply – I’m not trying to give you more “work”!
Thank you for your feedback! I agree it does make for a great gift!
I would say I would make it {at the earliest} 2 weeks ahead. You could probably make it further in advance but it’s best to keep it fresh. Also, when I made this recipe it filled up only a baby food jar. To make it equivalent to a 16 oz jelly jar I would use 1 cup of honey, 2 1/2 tablespoons of cinnamon and 2 1/2 tablespoons of nutmeg.
)
I also have TERRIBLY dry sky. My little girl also has it as well and we are not able to use any scented lotions on her because her skin is so sensitive. I have been looking into different recipes for a DIY cream. I recently believe I’ve found one but I would like to try it first before suggesting it. I plan to blog about this cream so please be looking for this blog post within the next week!
Thank you for your inquiry and thank you for following along with me!
To mainegreengirl, Try doing a gentle exfoliation once or twice a week on your hands (it is ok to use all over too) I know it sounds a little harsh when your skin is already irritated but it can help the circulation and repair or your skin. Try doing 1/4 part brown sugar, 1/4 part table salt (natures healer) and 1/2 olive OR coconut oil and as for the lotion you are using, try using anything with goats milk or use the original Hemp lotion (it is one of the very few lotions that does not have alcohol (drying) in the ingredients.
Good luck!
How many times a week do you use this mask? And when should you start seeing results? I used it last night and I loved it, my face felt so soft!
I would suggest using it approx 2-3x’s a week. Results vary but within two months I would say I could tell a difference
Ok thanks!!!
My husband and I are going to try this, thanks.
