DIY Mattress Cleaning

It’s Fridayyyyy :)

I wanted to start out by apologizing for not having pictures of the Country Living Fair. My sis-in-law is pregnant with my niece/nephew {eek!} and wasn’t feeling so hot so we decided we would just hit it up next year together!

This weekend is going to be a blast! My best friend from high school is having a baby shower tomorrow and afterwards I’m judging  for a child’s beauty pageant! I’m so so SO excited :)

Well folks, I feel like Spring cleaning hit me a little late {err something} because all I can think about today is deep cleaning my entire home. I MUST get dust/debri out of my house ASAP! lol. While doing laundry today I got the bright idea I was going to wash all of our pillows AND mattresses. Our mattress isn’t old by any means but I just love the feeling of laying down at night in a fresh, clean bed. {ahhhhhh….} While all of the bed linens were in the washer it was the perfect time to clean our mattress AND it was very super-duper, easy-peasy to do! Here’s the how-to…

INGREDIENTS:

1.}} Distilled Vinegar

2.}} Baking Soda

3.}} Spray bottle

HOW TO:

1.}} Start by taking off all of your linens, bed skirts, mattress covers, etc. {you’re thinking “obviously”;-) }

2.}} Lift your mattress and vacuum under it… now set it down and vacuum over it. {You want any loose debri sucked up before we start the cleaning process.}

3.}} Pour a small amount of Vinegar into the spray bottle and spritz down your mattress. {*It is NOT necessary to use all of the vinegar in the bottle. You do not want your bed to be too damp. Blot mattress with towel if needed.*}

4.}} Now sprinkle Baking Soda over your mattress and let it sit for approx. 1-2 hours.

5.}} Vacuum over your mattress making sure no baking soda is left. {Add a couple dryer sheets in between your mattress and box spring to keep a fresh scent within your bedroom.}

VOILA. Easy as pie, right?

It makes such a difference when you feel your mattress is fresh & clean!

*WHY VINEGAR? WHY BAKING SODA?*

Vinegar Disinfects and removes odor {Great for urine stains.} while baking soda draws out dirt, moisture and odor from your mattress.

Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Just started following your page, via a link from pintrest. I love your stuff!! we have a lot in common!! Check out my brand new blog, http://ahousepinspired.wordpress.com/ :)

  3. I just found your blog. I have enjoyed looking at your recipes and I am planning on making the eczema cream soon (I don’t have eczema but my skin is really dry). I have used this method in deorderizing my mattress before except I do without the dryer sheets because I’m sensitive to chemicals. I look forward to reading more.

  4. Do NOT use vinegar, I repeat, DO NOT USE IT. As an artist, I use vinegar to set paint. Vinegar sets in stains and makes an easily removable stain, permanent.
