Bar Stools Makeover

Happy Monday!

Lyla {daughter} and I have been cooped up in the house for most of the day since it’s been chilly & rainy. I’m a huge fan of rainy days though. It’s the perfect time for me to blog away!

Recently I was going through our garage trying to tidy up the clutter fest we had going on in there. Since we have a booth at a flea market we gather up items and store them in our garage until we have space to put them in our booth. Basically, our garage is ALWAYS full. I get in these moods where I de-clutter our home like a crazy, mad fool soooo… away I went into our garage! I found two bar stools that we had bought at an auction at the beginning of the summer. I’m not going to lie, they were straight up ugly and in rough condition but we snagged those babies right up because there was potential! I felt they had sat in our garage long enough, it was time to put some work in to these helpless bar stools! My little girl was already catching some zzzz’s so to work i went. Check it out…

Here’s what we’re dealing with….just plain, old & outdated. {Picture doesn’t even tell it all. They were in pretty bad shape.}

{{Normally, the first step I would suggest would be sanding down the legs first but there was no sealer left on these raw chair legs.}}

First, hubs and I grabbed a chair a piece and went to town popping out the old staples on these chair cushions. {There seemed to be a million of these suckers!}

{This is what we got it down to.}

Second, I painted the bar stools an antique blue color and coated each chair with a sealer. {We had this leftover paint already from another project. Score!}

Third, I cut a circle out of my fabric and stapled it all the way around the bottom of the chair. {Side note: When cutting the circle from the fabric be sure to leave AT LEAST 1-2 inches extra all the way around so you will have plenty of fabric to work with when stapling.}

{Here is the final product!}

Looks MUCH better! I think they would be adorable in a girls dorm room. Hopefully they sell quickly in our booth! :)

Enjoy your day!!

Knotted Jersey Headband

It’s Wednesdayyyy! Half way to the weekend guys…hang in there.

This week is creeeeeping along for me. I can’t even wait for this weekend and all the festivities! Parties, graduations and Mother’s Day! My first Mother’s Day :) I can’t wait to shower my mother and mother-in-law with gifts {who doesn’t like gifts?}.

In the process of scouting out some DIY projects I stumbled upon this adorable DIY headband just using t-shirts at lovestitched.com. I’m a sucker for headbands {especially on a bad hair day} and so I had to give it a go.

Here’s the process…

1}} Get a t-shirt you don’t wear anymore! Lay it out flat and cut TWO 3 inch strips from the bottom going across.

2}} Pull each strip stretching to where it gives a little.

3}} Take the first strip and cross it over like so {keeping the loop at the TOP and the right side overlapping the left}.

4}} Lay your second strip over top of the first in a “U” manner.

5}} Put the right side of the SECOND piece UNDER the right side of the FIRST piece. {You with me on that? I’ll wait…}

6}} Okay…the LEFT side of the second piece goes UNDER the loop of the first. {You’re doing great!}

7}} {a little tricky here…} The RIGHT side of the SECOND piece goes OVER the loop of the first, passing UNDER the left side of the second and then over the other side of the loop. {Make sense?}

8}} {Now you’re pretty much done!} Take each end and gently pull.

9}} Cut the ends. {I held it up to my head to see how long I would like mine. Also I left one end longer so the knot would be off-center.}

10}} Glue the two strips on each end of the headband together.

11}} Cut a 3 inch long square from your extra fabric and put glue on it.

12}} Put each end of your headband on to the glued square.

13}} Wrap the square around the two strips and glue.

You’re finished! Cute isn’t it?!

I liked it so much I even made one for my little girl :)

Have a great rest of the week!

Pillowcase Dress with Tutorial & Winner Reveal

It’s Wednesday!

We’re over the hump {almost} and the weekend is in sight!

First things first…Thanks to everyone who entered in the Mother’s Day Giveaway! I know you all have anxiously been waiting to see who the winner is! Are you ready for the results?! And the winner is.………….

Connie Neal!

Congratulations! I will be contacting you later today!

Next on the agenda is the Pillowcase Dress Tutorial {fun, fun!}

ITEMS NEEDED:

  • 1/2 a yard of your favorite three fabrics {If you would like you can just do one fabric but I like a little mixture}
  • Spool of Ribbon
  • Thread
  • Sewing Pins
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure
  • and of course a Sewing Machine

TUTORIAL:

*My measurements I used are for a 9 month old. They are: 14 inches long & 14 inches wide {for main fabric}, 3 1/2 in arm holes, 2 3/4 width & 14 inches long {second fabric}, 2 3/4 width & third fabric.*

1}} Do you have your pen and paper ready? Alright…Start by measuring the length. {The best way to do this is by measuring the back of the neck to the back of the knee.} Once you’ve measured, add 2 inches {so when you sew your seam you won’t lose length}.

2}} Measure the width of your child. {The best way to do this is from shoulder to shoulder.} Once you’ve measured, add 2 inches.

3}} Measure the arm holes. {The best way to do this is to measure from the top of the shoulder to where you would like the arm hole to end.} Add 1 inch.

4}} Now we’re ready! Fold your fabric in half and cut out a square in your fabric using the length and width measurements {not arm holes yet}. *If you are using multiple fabrics like I am then be sure to knock off about 6 inches or whatever you feel looks good.*

5}} Next, cut out “J’s” for the arm holes. {I cut 3 1/2 inches long and about 2/12 inches deep. Keep in mind my measurements are for a 9 month old.}

Image

6}} If you are doing multiple layers… Fold your second fabric in half and cut to the width you would like. {Mine was 2 3/4 in width and 14 inches long.}

Image

7}} Fold your third fabric in half and cut. {Once again, I used 2 3/4 in width and 14 inches long.}

Image

8}} It’s time to get to the good stuff…sew away! Separate all pieces from each other. On your main fabric fold in the edges {on both pieces individually} about a 1/2 an inch and pin. Image

Image

9}} Continue to do this for your second and third fabric as well. {Be sure to fold in ALL edges.}

10}} Once all edges are pinned, sew each piece individually.

Image

11}} Next, measure the width of your ribbon. Fold in the top of your dress to the width of your ribbon. Pin & sew.

12}} Turn in the bottom of your main fabric and the top of your second fabric {to where the front sides are facing each other} and pin. Sew straight line where the two pieces meet.Image

13}} Turn in the bottom of your second fabric to the top of your third fabric {like you did for the first layers}. Pin and sew.

14}} Hang in there, you’re almost done! Now turn your fabric inside out {where the front and back of the dress is turned in to each other}. Pin ONLY the sides of the dress {under the arm holes and down to the bottom} and sew.

15}} {Turn right side out} Fold the bottom of the whole dress in about a half an inch. Pin & sew for a clean seam.

16}} Last but not least….Push your ribbon through the loops of the back of the dress to the front and tie a pretty bow. :-)

You’re done! Now step back, take a deep breath and admire your work!

Here is my little model {my daughter :-) } struttin’ her stuff in her new dress…

Once you’ve made this dress please share pics! {Don’t be shy ;-) } I would love to see them!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
