Mother’s Day GIVEAWAY!

mom

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and what’s better than winning a $30 gift certificate for yourself or for your momma?! That’s right, there’s a giveaway going on here on DIYconfessions! {Eek! I LOVE giveaways :) } I’m sure many of you have heard of Origami Owl  by now but if not, let me share a little tid-bit of what it’s all about…

Origami Owl is a unique locket system where you get to design your locket to tell your “story”. You are able to choose a chain, locket, charms, plate {displayed behind the charms}, and add dangles for some extra bling! The lockets are magnetic so you can open them and change your charms in and out as you please. Sounds awesome, right?! Laura is who is hosting this giveaway and she mentioned to me that she has two chains, one locket and about 15 charms so she can mix and match them based on where she’s going! Here’s a few examples for you to see…

Photo Shoot!

Recently my friend Chrissy and I had a photo shoot with my daughter to help show off some items! The pics turned out great even though my little one {Lyla} had a bit of a breakdown. She had not napped at ALL that day and let me tell you, she was not feeling a photo shoot. We still had fun though and I was happily surprised to see a handful of them turned out wonderfully! Check out how fun and girly these photos are!

How adorable is this? My incredibly talented friend Chrissy actually made the tu-tu and the hair bow you see in the photos! She also makes a variety of other items such as fruit arrangements, wreaths, etc. {{By the way, she did not ask me to advertise her. I just love these photos and her products and wanted to share with everyone!}} If you’re interested in seeing more of her products please contact her at csmccurry3@yahoo.com.

Hair-Hardware $50 Gift Card GIVEAWAY!!

photo (34)

I recently decided to try out Hair-Hardware to make headbands & bows for my little girl and I’m seriously SOLD on their products! The quality of the ribbon and accessories are AMAZING as well as their video tutorials for bow making {which I definitely needed to watch}! Not only do they have 196 {yes, 196!} colors of grosgrain ribbons, satins and lotssss of printed ribbons, they also carry hundreds of embellishments such as paper flowers, flower petals, flat back resins and appliques! Perfect for any DIYer or crafter! What’s even more wonderful is that they sell their ribbon by the yard and they have NO minimum on orders. One of my favorite things about their website is that they have what is called “Today’s BIG deal” where every day they have a new item that is discounted and even better, you get FREE SHIPPING on orders $50 and over! Bam. Order up folks because that’s a deal!

Well, sometimes words aren’t enough so here’s some pics ;-)

–> Here is just a few of the fun ribbons they carry! Their ribbon comes in 1/4″, 3/8″, 5/8″, 7/8″ and 1.5″.

Pillowcase Dress with Tutorial & Winner Reveal

It’s Wednesday!

We’re over the hump {almost} and the weekend is in sight!

First things first…Thanks to everyone who entered in the Mother’s Day Giveaway! I know you all have anxiously been waiting to see who the winner is! Are you ready for the results?! And the winner is.………….

Connie Neal!

Congratulations! I will be contacting you later today!

Next on the agenda is the Pillowcase Dress Tutorial {fun, fun!}

ITEMS NEEDED:

  • 1/2 a yard of your favorite three fabrics {If you would like you can just do one fabric but I like a little mixture}
  • Spool of Ribbon
  • Thread
  • Sewing Pins
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure
  • and of course a Sewing Machine

TUTORIAL:

*My measurements I used are for a 9 month old. They are: 14 inches long & 14 inches wide {for main fabric}, 3 1/2 in arm holes, 2 3/4 width & 14 inches long {second fabric}, 2 3/4 width & third fabric.*

1}} Do you have your pen and paper ready? Alright…Start by measuring the length. {The best way to do this is by measuring the back of the neck to the back of the knee.} Once you’ve measured, add 2 inches {so when you sew your seam you won’t lose length}.

2}} Measure the width of your child. {The best way to do this is from shoulder to shoulder.} Once you’ve measured, add 2 inches.

3}} Measure the arm holes. {The best way to do this is to measure from the top of the shoulder to where you would like the arm hole to end.} Add 1 inch.

4}} Now we’re ready! Fold your fabric in half and cut out a square in your fabric using the length and width measurements {not arm holes yet}. *If you are using multiple fabrics like I am then be sure to knock off about 6 inches or whatever you feel looks good.*

5}} Next, cut out “J’s” for the arm holes. {I cut 3 1/2 inches long and about 2/12 inches deep. Keep in mind my measurements are for a 9 month old.}

Image

6}} If you are doing multiple layers… Fold your second fabric in half and cut to the width you would like. {Mine was 2 3/4 in width and 14 inches long.}

Image

7}} Fold your third fabric in half and cut. {Once again, I used 2 3/4 in width and 14 inches long.}

Image

8}} It’s time to get to the good stuff…sew away! Separate all pieces from each other. On your main fabric fold in the edges {on both pieces individually} about a 1/2 an inch and pin. Image

Image

9}} Continue to do this for your second and third fabric as well. {Be sure to fold in ALL edges.}

10}} Once all edges are pinned, sew each piece individually.

Image

11}} Next, measure the width of your ribbon. Fold in the top of your dress to the width of your ribbon. Pin & sew.

12}} Turn in the bottom of your main fabric and the top of your second fabric {to where the front sides are facing each other} and pin. Sew straight line where the two pieces meet.Image

13}} Turn in the bottom of your second fabric to the top of your third fabric {like you did for the first layers}. Pin and sew.

14}} Hang in there, you’re almost done! Now turn your fabric inside out {where the front and back of the dress is turned in to each other}. Pin ONLY the sides of the dress {under the arm holes and down to the bottom} and sew.

15}} {Turn right side out} Fold the bottom of the whole dress in about a half an inch. Pin & sew for a clean seam.

16}} Last but not least….Push your ribbon through the loops of the back of the dress to the front and tie a pretty bow. :-)

You’re done! Now step back, take a deep breath and admire your work!

Here is my little model {my daughter :-) } struttin’ her stuff in her new dress…

Once you’ve made this dress please share pics! {Don’t be shy ;-) } I would love to see them!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
