MIA

I just wanted to touch base with all of you and let you know the reason I’ve been MIA lately. I’m so excited to announce that DIYconfessions is currently getting redesigned by the amazingly, wonderful Emily from Designerblogs.com and will soon have a fresh, modern look! {Screaming} Yayyy! The look of DIYconfessions will most likely be changing for the next couple weeks until all is snug to perfection. I honestly cannot WAIT for the final product! It’s incredible to be a part of this growth and expansion to bigger and better things! I appreciate your patience and excitement as we experience bloggy “growing pains”. :)

Here’s a sneak peak of the new “pin it” and “DIY confessions” header design:

L.O.V.E. Bookshelf

Good morning!!

Don’t you just love a lazy Saturday?! My laundry is screeeeaming for help and my floor is covered in toys but instead I’m on the couch cuddling all morning with my little girl watching some good ol’ Spongebob Squarepants. {Laundry < Cuddles}

A few days ago I showed my hubs a picture of a L.O.V.E. shelf I wanted SO bad! It was priced at $80 and I knew WE {uh-hum….okay, maybe just the hubs} was capable of building it for wayyy under $80. He lived up to my expectations and surpassed! After a couple hours ….I had a shelf! The best shelf ever. ;-)

ITEMS NEEDED:

1}} Wood Planks 2 x 7 x 8

2}} 2 1/2 in screws

3}} Table saw

4}} Paint {optional}

5}} Measuring Tape

6}} Sander

Thanks to the superhero {<–”The Dark Knight Rises” is still in my head} of this project, hubs Jake already figured out the measurements for you so let’s get started!

1st}} Start by sanding down your 2 x 7 x 8 wood planks.

2}} Cut your planks to the appropriate sizes.

*For the “L” you will need an 11 inch and 28 inch piece.

*For the “O” you will need two 9 inch pieces and a 14 in.

*For the “V” you will need two 11 1/2 inch pieces with the edges cut at a 45 degree angle.

*For the “E” you will need a 20 inch, 9 inch and a 14 inch and a 5 1/2 inch.

3}} Paint, paint, PAINT! If you are painting the wood, now is the best time to do it. *Try to keep your letters in groups.*

{{I used three different colors to make it look like old barn wood. Started with the navy blue, then the black and last the grey.}}

4}} Screw them together starting with the bottom of the “E” and work your way up to the top.

{{For each piece you put together, put a screw on each end and one in the center to stabilize.}}

5}} Feast your eyes on your beauty because you’re finished!

6}} Time to decorate!

Okay here’s the recap:

Have a fun weekend everyone!!

NO SEW Scarf to Shrug

Hey fellow DIY-ers!

I have missed youuuu!

I’ve been gardening more to help our front yard out and it is finally looking like folks are living here! {BIG plus compared to how pathetic it was a few weeks ago.} The down side is I had some type of allergic reaction to either a plant, bug bite, dirt…who knows *rolls eyes*. I broke out in hives all over my body! {I thought I had chicken pox –>chicken pox virgin here<– and I just about died.} Luckily it is starting to get better! My stomach still looks like one big bug bite though {very attractive, i know}.

I was recently in Brown County, Indiana {woo-hoo! Love BC} with my family shopping for some goodies {–>By the way if you have never heard of twisted wick candles you have to check them out! Their candles smell AMAZING and burn evenly all the way down!} and ran across this woman with a cuuuute top on. My mom and I stopped to tell her how adorable she looked and to our surprise she said it was just a scarf she twisted to look like a shrug! She asked if we wanted to see how she did it and of course you all know this DIY-er was ALL ears! :)

Here is the how to….

*Be sure you have a large scarf when fully laid out for the best results*

1}} Lay out the scarf

Image

                                                                    2}} Fold scarf in half

Image

                                            3}} Take the sides and tie them together

-The side that the two ends meet and the bottom where it is a fold-

                                                   4}} Take sides and pull apart

                                          5}} If you would like “pockets” take the bottom end of scarf, wrap it

                                                     around shoulder piece and tie it. Repeat on other side.

Cute right?!

Without pockets….

With pockets…

I hope you love it!

Enjoy your day!
